1. The best and easiest method is to have the recipient download the free Finale Notepad application. This free program will allow anyone to open your Finale/Allegro/PrintMusic files, as well as play, print or edit them. http://www.finalemusic.com/
2. You can save the music as a MIDI file, and then attach this file to your email. Most computers can play MIDI files, but MIDI files do not contain notation data and lyrics - MIDI files only contain playback data. (they can hear your music, but won’t see anything.)
To save a MIDI file:
o Open the document in Finale, Allegro or PrintMusic.
o In the File menu, select Save As.
o Select a folder to save the file in.
o Under Save As Type, select "MIDI File (*.MID)".
o Name the file.
o Click the Save button.
3. You can export your pages of notation from Finale or Allegro as TIFF or from Finale as EPS files, and then attach these files to your email. These are graphic files and do not contain playback data. Many computers cannot view EPS files, but most computers can view TIFF files. Most web browsers can not view TIFF and EPS files.
4. You can use a graphics program to convert your TIFF or EPS exports to GIF, JPG or BMP files, and then attach these files to your email. Most computers can read GIF, JPG and BMP files -- GIF and JPG files can also be read by most browsers, such as Netscape and Internet Explorer, and can be used in web pages.
5. You can use a PDF file creation program, such as Adobe Acrobat, to convert the TIFF or EPS files to PDF files. Anyone with a PDF file display program, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader can then read PDF files. With Adobe Acrobat, you should also be able to use the Acrobat PDFWriter as a "printer" from Finale to create PDF files. These files also work well for posting music notation on a web page.
